Students will learn the fundamental skills of a mason. They will create a series of projects that progress from jobs as simple as a brick pyramid to one as complex as a residential fireplace. Students will also have the opportunity to work on the student built house project. Students will learn how to use the basic hand tools of the trade, which include scaffolding, masonry rules, mortar mixers, and other basic tools. They will learn to read blueprints. Students will use the masonry shop to practice and perfect their trade-related skills. At the end of the program, students’ job readiness and mastery of occupational skills will be measured based on testing and completion of projects.
