Students enrolled in the Health Careers program explore various occupations of the healthcare industry. Core curriculum focuses on anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, medical math, medical professionalism and fundamentals of patient care. The academic content is focused on the student who is considering post-secondary education in various fields such as, but not limited to, pre-med, nursing, physical therapy, medical assistant, occupational therapy, radiology, ultrasound technician, massage therapy and many more. Additionally, students learn basic patient care skills such as taking vital signs, activities of daily living and first aid skills. Students will practice these skills on their peers as well as on simulation mannequins. Students will be certified in CPR and will be encouraged to participate in the SkillsUSA competition, National Technical Honor Society, Rotary Club and various other professional development activities as they are offered. Health Careers students will be taken into the community for various observations in local healthcare facilities. Students in their senior year may also have the opportunity to participate in the dual enrollment program with local colleges, earning college credits upon completion.
