The Academy for Medical Sciences offers students one of the fastest growing areas of employment, with over 200 different potential careers now existing. A student considering a health career should like to work with all ages and types of people, have excellent written and verbal communication skills, and should enjoy math and science courses. In addition, they should be empathetic to other people’s needs, motivated, curious and dependable.
The Academy course is fast paced and for the college prep/honors student who is capable of managing class work, as well as independent research assignments. The curriculum includes legal and ethical responsibility of the health care worker, communication in the health care industry, nutrition, safety and first aid, and an overview of the health care industry. This course is designed to provide the student with the necessary information and skills to be considered safe in a clinical environment. The clinical component offers various health care experiences for a multifacal overview of professional health careers.
Lehigh Valley Muhlenberg limits the number of students to receive the clinical component; therefore, the class is highly competitive. The course is one semester in length for academics and one semester for clinical experience.
